September 29th, 2009Roy, son suspended for part in junior league brawl
March 26th, 2008Wednesday, Mar 26, 2008 11:28 am EDT
Hall of Fame goalie Patrick Roy and his son were suspended a total of 12 games for their parts in a brawl that broke out during a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoff game.
The league said Tuesday that Roy, who coaches Quebec Remparts, was suspended five games for conduct related to his team's fight with the Chicoutimi Sagueneens on Saturday.
Goalie Jonathon Roy was suspended seven games for barreling into Bobby Nadeau and repeatedly hitting him. The suspensions were effective immediately and could run into next season. The elder Roy, who was on the bench, denied playing any role in the melee, although he appeared to urge on his son with a wave before he attacked the rival goaltender.

1 of 30 NASCAR Gallery LAS VEGAS (AP)—Carl Edwards raced to his second win in six days, holding off Dale Earnhardt Jr. on a pair of late restarts Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Edwards, who scored his first win of the season in Monday’s rain-postponed event in California, celebrated win No. 2 with his trademark backflip. The victory moved Edwards to the top of the Sprint Cup points standings for the first time in his career.
“We do this to win, and winning these races is the greatest,” Edwards said. “But what we’re trying to do is win the championship this year. That’s the goal.”
It was the sixth victory for team owner Jack Roush in 11 races at Las Vegas, and it ended Jimmie Johnson’s string of three straight wins in the desert.

Showdown with Karl Rove
December 1st, 2007Dear Michael,
Showdown with Karl Rove
Chris Van Hollen squares off tomorrow,
Sunday, December 2, on Fox News.
Check your local listings.
This Sunday, Karl Rove's desperate attempts to rewrite history will come to an abrupt end -- and we can all watch it happen.
On Sunday, DCCC Chairman Chris Van Hollen will square off with Karl Rove on FOX News Sunday to confront Rove directly on his outright lies about George Bush's war in Iraq.
Lately Karl Rove has been going around town, blaming Congress for starting the failed war in Iraq. That's right -- he is actually trying to make people forget that President Bush started this disastrous war in a ludicrous attempt to rewrite the history books.
Even former White House Chief of Staff Andy Card confirmed that what Rove said was simply not true. He tried to explain Rove's spin. When asked if it was true, Card said, "no." He then explained Rove's lie by saying "Well, Karl is very smart. He's -- sometimes his brain gets ahead of his mouth. And sometimes his mouth gets ahead of his brain."
Tomorrow, Chairman Van Hollen will call him on it.
But we can also use your help to set the record straight.
Write a letter-to-the-editor
Send a letter directly to Karl Rove himself
Most of all, don't forget to watch tomorrow on Fox News. Times will vary, so check your local listings. I can't wait to see it.
Sincerely,
Brian Wolff

Quiet Riot Singer Kevin DuBrow Found Dead In His Las Vegas Home
November 26th, 2007 Rocker, 52, died of unknown causes.

Quiet Riot singer Kevin DuBrow died Sunday, drummer Frankie Banali confirmed in a post on his Web site. DuBrow was 52 years old and the official cause of his death has yet to be determined.
"I can't even find words to say," Banali wrote. "Please respect my privacy as I mourn the passing and honor the memory of my dearest friend Kevin DuBrow."
DuBrow's body was discovered on Sunday inside the rocker's Las Vegas home. According to those close to the singer, DuBrow celebrated his birthday last month in New Orleans and seemed to be in good health. Quiet Riot bassist Kelly Garni has asked fans to be patient for details on the singer's death.
"I ask this to all of you not only for myself but for other friends and family," Garni wrote, in a message posted to a Web site honoring the memory of Quiet Riot founding member Randy Rhoads. "I ask that no one here offer any speculation or opinions, theories or other things that could be construed as negative or, and I'm sorry for this, even sympathetic, right at this immediate time. I am already, within hours of this, having to deal with untrue rumors and speculation and that only adds fuel to that. There is a tendency for the subject of Kevin to incite flames on every board, and now is not the time for that. I will explain to everyone here the facts and the truth in the next 24 to 48 hours as I realize this will affect us all. So please, until then, be patient. All details and other pertinent info will be passed on to you here when it becomes available to me."
Bill Chavis, owner of Chavis Records, the label that issued Quiet Riot's last LP, 2006's Rehab, also confirmed the news.
"DuBrow's body was found by friends on Sunday, November 25, in his Las Vegas home," reads the label's site. "As I mourn his death with a heavy heart, I will remember hearing his voice and the music for the very first time on the radio back in 1983. I will remember all the great music Kevin and Quiet Riot gave to so many of us over the years and I will say, 'Thank you, Kevin. May you rest in peace.' "
Credited with helping to launch the 1980s glam-metal scene, Quiet Riot are perhaps best known for their cover of Slade's "Cum on Feel the Noize," which appeared on 1983's Metal Health and eventually peaked at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album was the first by a metal band to reach the chart's #1 position.
Hello Mike,
There's nothing I'm more proud of than the way the community here at JohnKerry.com made it a personal cause last election cycle to send to Congress the "Fighting Dems" - veterans running for Congress to provide our men and women in uniform a stronger voice in a Washington that had forgotten what it really meant to "support the troops."
You did amazing work -- raising more than $1.6 million dollars for veterans running for Congress.
All of you contributed vital dollars to change the face of our party, and change the face of our Congress.
Will you join the cause again in 2008?
We need more voices in Washington who understand the real costs of war, when every year away from a family is a tremendous price to pay, and every death is a tragedy. We have come a long way since the dark days of 2005 and 2006, but we still have some work to do to finish the job.
I'm glad to say that we have another crop of amazing veterans running for office as Democrats across the country, men and women who are dedicated to our country and our work to make us live up to our highest ideals.
Click here to support these fine candidates.
Just look at the incredible "Fighting Dems" reporting for duty in 2008:
We have Jon Powers, an Iraq war veteran who is one of the most promising and exciting young candidates I've seen. He returned from the Iraq war and began a program to help Iraqi children. We also have Eric Massa and Charlie Brown, who are running in Republican districts against rubberstamp Republican supporters of President Bush. Both of these men ran courageous races last time and came within a hair of pulling off a victory. Another strong push can put them over the top.
And, finally, we have a man I've been privileged to serve with in Congress this year, Admiral Joe Sestak, who won his race last year with great support from all of you but who is being targeted by the Republicans next year because on military matters he speaks his mind and he speaks the truth - and that scares the hell out of the G.O.P..
Please do what you can to help them and continue our push to get this country turned around.
One of my proudest moments in politics was seeing everything this community accomplished last year and the difference you made in sending veterans with courage and character to Congress.
Let's do it again -- thank you for all of your help, and I'm more confident than ever that we can pull this off.
Sincerely,
John Kerry

Buffalo's O.J. Simpson held without bail in Las Vegas robbery
September 17th, 2007By Dan Whitcomb
Mon Sep 17, 12:45 AM ET
LAS VEGAS (Reuters) - Former football star O.J. Simpson, who was acquitted in 1995 of murdering his ex-wife, was arrested and held without bail on Sunday in connection with a suspected armed robbery in a Las Vegas hotel room last week.

Simpson, 60, was taken into custody at the Palms hotel just off the Las Vegas strip on Sunday morning without incident and booked on suspicion of armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy and burglary, Las Vegas police said. If convicted on all charges, Simpson could face some three decades in behind bars.
Simpson will be held without bail pending a court hearing on Thursday, Sgt. John Loretto said.
Las Vegas police on Saturday night arrested another man they believe was with the former star athlete during the suspected theft of Simpson-related sports souvenirs and other items and said they were searching for four others.
They also said they seized two handguns they believe are related to the Thursday night incident, which was reported by a sports memorabilia dealer as an armed robbery in his room at the Palace Station Hotel & Casino.
When asked if police believed Simpson was wielding a gun, Las Vegas Metro Police Lt. Clint Nichols told reporters, "We don't have any info that would lead us to believe he was armed."
Representatives for the Palms and Simpson's attorney did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
'DONE NOTHING WRONG'
Orenthal James, or O.J., Simpson, who parlayed his fame as an athlete into a career in movies and television before the murder trial -- one of the most sensational in U.S. history, ended his career in Hollywood, previously told police and the media he did nothing wrong in Las Vegas.
"I'm not walking around feeling sad or anything. I've done nothing wrong," he said in an interview published in the Los Angeles Times on Sunday.
Simpson told the paper that "golfing buddies and some of their friends" accompanied him to a meeting at the Palace Station Hotel & Casino to help him retrieve sports memorabilia, personal photos and other items he said had been stolen by a former sports agent.
Simpson who lives in Miami, Florida, said an auctioneer set up the meeting with the sellers. He said the men in his party were unarmed.
"I'm O.J. Simpson. How am I going to think that I'm going to rob somebody and get away with it?" he said. "You've got to understand, this ain't somebody going to steal somebody's drugs or something like that. This is somebody going to get his private (belongings) back. That's it. That's not robbery."
After he was acquitted in the murders of his former wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman, a civil court jury found Simpson responsible for the deaths and ordered him to pay $33.5 million in damages to their families.
The former National Football League star, nicknamed "The Juice" during his playing days, has had other minor brushes with police since 1995.
Simpson's latest legal flap comes as Simpson's book "If I Did It," which includes a hypothetical account of his ex-wife's murder, was hitting store shelves. The book is No. 2 on Amazon.com's best-seller list.
